Treaty 1 and Dakota Territory, Homeland of the Red River Metis, Winnipeg MB - MLA for Assiniboia, Nellie Kennedy, introduced a bill to recognize October as Islamic Heritage Month in Manitoba.

“This initiative aims to honour and recognize the invaluable contributions of Muslim communities to the fabric of our province's diverse tapestry,” said Nellie Kennedy, NDP MLA for Assiniboia. “When we choose to uplift our Muslim neighbours and celebrate our common values together, we create a better, more equitable Manitoba for all.”

Islamic Heritage Month serves as an opportunity to honour the rich contributions of Muslim Manitobans to our society, culture, economy, and history. By designating October as Islamic Heritage Month, Manitoba will join other provinces across Canada in recognizing and celebrating Muslims and our shared heritage.

“I am grateful that in this sacred month of Ramadan Manitobans are coming together to witness the passing of a bill that will officially recognize Islamic Heritage Month in Manitoba,” said Shahina Siddiqui, chair of Islamic History Month – Canada. “What better way to build bridges than to offer people the opportunity to know each other and grow in mutual respect and compassion. Thank you, MLA Nellie Kennedy, for recognizing Manitoba’s rich Muslim heritage and honouring us this special month to educate, share, celebrate, and empower our youth to feel at home."
