Treaty 1 and Dakota Territory, Homeland of the Red River Métis, Winnipeg MB--Surrounded by his children, family, First Nations Leadership, and the NDP Caucus, Eric Redhead was sworn in today as the MLA for Thompson.

“It’s an honour to represent families in Thompson and the surrounding
communities,” said Redhead. “I know these are tough times for families in the North who are struggling to keep up with the cost of living. Along with Wab Kinew and the NDP I will fight to ensure that northern families have a brighter future they can afford.”

With his children beside him, Redhead was drummed into Room 200 at the Legislature by the Whitehorse Singers, with NDP Leader Wab Kinew and the NDP Caucus processing behind him. Kinew gave opening remarks and Pastor Marty McLean gave a blessing before Redhead was sworn in on his personal Bible.

Nearly 100 people were in attendance including Chief of Shamattawa, Jordna Hill and Chief Marcel Moody from Nisichawayasihk Cree Nation.

“Eric Redhead is a caring father and a strong community leader who will fight for northern families,” said Kinew. “Eric worked hard to get where he is today and I know he will continue to work hard to make life better for the families in his constituency. He will be an incredible MLA and he makes our team stronger. With Eric on our team, we continue the NDP’s legacy of representing all of Northern Manitoba.”
