Treaty 1 and Dakota Territory, Homeland of the Red River Metis, Winnipeg MB – MLA for Seine River, Billie Cross, introduced Bill 216, recognizing May as Manitoba Small Business Month.
“Small businesses are an important part of our province's economy, providing good jobs and quality services for Manitobans and our government is taking action to support them,” said MLA Cross, who ran a small business herself. “This bill recognizes that small business owners and entrepreneurs offer a lot in terms of economic prosperity and cultural richness to Manitoba.”
Small businesses represent 95% of all businesses in Manitoba, all of whom come from diverse backgrounds and employ Manitobans from all walks of life.
"The Manitoba Chamber of Commerce fully supports the formal recognition of small businesses and the impact they have on making Manitoba the prosperous province that it is", said President and CEO, Chuck Davidson. “Our team represents 10,000 businesses in Manitoba, so any initiatives that encourages local entrepreneurs and buying local is greatly welcomed.”
