Treaty 1 and Dakota Territory, Homeland of the Red River Metis, Gimli MB – The Manitoba NDP Caucus came together for their caucus retreat held in Gimli, Manitoba. NDP Caucus MLAs spent the day meeting Manitobans in Stonewall, Brokenhead First Nation, Selkirk, Gimli and Rockwood.
This year’s retreat was an opportunity for the caucus to reconvene and prepare to deliver for Manitobans in the upcoming fall legislative session. They also came together to discuss Governments’ priorities, which are rebuilding health care, lowering costs, and helping Manitobans raise healthy families in safer communities.
“The team is coming together to deliver on what Manitobans elected us to do,” said NDP Caucus Chair Mike Moyes. “After spending the summer connecting with our constituents and having the opportunity to meet with residents of these vibrant communities, we are thrilled to be going back to the House to pass important legislation and make progress on health care and making life more affordable.”
The NDP Caucus also spent this three-day retreat connecting with over 30 local organizations, farmers, First Nations leadership and elected officials throughout Interlake-Gimli, Red River North and Selkirk.
“We take every opportunity to highlight our commitment to sustainability and showcase the great work we’re doing here in Selkirk, so it was a pleasure to welcome the team of NDP MLAs to our city,” said Mayor Larry Johannson. “From our state-of-the-art Wastewater Treatment Plant — which operates without fossil fuels — to the Rec Complex and its solar-powered rooftop installation, we were so proud to highlight how our facilities and infrastructure are built to meet both our community’s needs and our environmental goals.”
“We are committed to forging a path toward economic reconciliation that honours our rights and traditions, while building a strong future for our Nation," said Chief Gordon Bluesky of Brokenhead Ojibway Nation. “Today's meeting with the NDP is an important step toward achieving the economic justice our people deserve."
“I appreciated that the NDP came for a tour of Interlake Manitoba,” said Mike Duguid, a second-generation farmer. “As a producer in Gimli, it was great to share more about how my business works with elected officials and discuss how we can work together to deliver for Manitobans.”
