NDP Caucus welcomes Carla Compton as 35th NDP MLA
Treaty 1 and Dakota Territory, Homeland of the Red River Metis, Winnipeg MB - Manitoba’s NDP caucus is excited to welcome Carla Compton to represent families in Tuxedo and sit at the table with Wab Kinew and the NDP government.
“We are very excited to welcome Carla Compton to our government as a positive voice for the people of Tuxedo,” said Kinew. “As a nurse for the last 18 years, Carla knows the damage the previous government did to our health care. She’s ready to work with our team as we rebuild health care together, for families across the province. This election shows that more Manitobans than ever are united behind our vision of one Manitoba – including the people of Tuxedo.”
Compton, who has been a registered nurse for 18 years, will be sworn in following the official certification of results by Elections Manitoba, bringing the total number of NDP MLAs in the government caucus to 35.
“I’m honoured by the trust the people of Tuxedo have placed in me, and I’m ready to take what I heard at the doorsteps to the government table,” said MLA-Elect Compton. “The real work begins today, and I’m looking forward to joining the government table with Premier Wab Kinew as we rebuild health care and grow our economy for Tuxedo and for families across our province,”
Compton is the first NDP MLA ever elected in the constituency of Tuxedo.
“Last night, voters in Tuxedo sent a strong message. They rejected division and put their trust in Carla and our team to fix health care, lower costs, and create more good jobs for Manitobans,” said Mike Moyes, caucus chair and MLA for Riel. “Carla worked hard to earn the support of Tuxedo families, and I know she’ll work tirelessly on their behalf as part of our team in government.”
