Treaty 1 and Dakota Territory, Homeland of the Red River Métis, Winnipeg - The Manitoba NDP called on Premier Stefanson to commit to having all PC MLAs and Candidates march in Pride Parades this year to show solidarity with the 2SLGBTQ+ community.
“Pride is about showing solidarity and support for all Manitobans. Every NDP MLA and candidate is proud to march in Pride parades all across our province this year alongside our leader Wab Kinew” said Lisa Naylor, MLA Wolseley. “It’s important that the Premier supports Manitobans and shows leadership – that’s why we are calling on her to commit to having her entire caucus and candidates march in a Pride Parade this year”.
The Manitoba NDP has a proud history of marching in pride parades all across our province. Last year the Premier spoke at Winnipeg Pride but chose not to march in the parade. She was subsequently banned from speaking for breaking her promise to march in the parade. She failed to unequivocally condemn book banning when the Brandon School Board considered a proposal earlier this month.
“We need to see actions, not just words, to support 2SLGBTQ+ Manitobans," said Naylor. "We think every candidate for the Manitoba Legislature and every MLA should be able to say they will walk in a Pride parade this year – that’s why the Manitoba NDP under our Leader is proud to make this commitment.”
