Treaty 1 and Dakota Territory, Homeland of the Red River Métis, Winnipeg MB – This morning Mark Wasyliw, Deputy NDP House Leader, successfully passed a resolution to condemn Russia’s violent invasion of Ukraine and support the Federal government’s sanctions and efforts to help Ukraine maintain independence. The resolution received unanimous support from the whole assembly.

The Ukrainian community in Manitoba has deep roots – they have shaped the social, cultural and political landscape of our province,” said Wasyliw. “The Manitoba NDP stands with the people of Ukraine, and the Ukrainian community in Manitoba and Canada. We condemn Putin’s violent imperialist invasion and affirm that Ukrainian sovereignty and independence must be protected. We affirm the applications of sanctions against Russia and calling on the Federal Government to use all available means to support Ukraine’s efforts to maintain sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence and assist those seeking safety.”

In addition to passing this resolution, the NDP has also called on the PC government to match all donations made by Manitobans to support the Ukraine up to $5 million and increase supports for local settlement organizations.
