Pallister Privatizes Part of Manitoba Hydro

September 29, 2020

Treaty 1 Territory, Winnipeg MB— Today, the Manitoba NDP learned the Pallister Government has sold Teshmont Consultants LP to a private for-profit corporation, another step on the road to breaking up and privatizing Manitoba Hydro.

“Teshmont has been part of Manitoba Hydro for decades and integral to building our most important Crown Corporation,” said Wab Kinew, leader of the Official Opposition Manitoba NDP. “These are good Manitoba jobs the Government is selling off to the highest bidder”.

Teshmont’s head office is located in Winnipeg. It has decades of experience and supervised the construction of the Bipole I Project, one of the largest HVDC projects in the world at that time. By all accounts, it returns profits to Manitoba Hydro.

“This represents a loss of good jobs, and a huge loss of expertise and revenue for Hydro,” said Adrien Sala, Official Opposition Critic for Hydro. “This move to privatize and sell off Teshmont will only hurt Hydro, threaten good jobs, and lead to higher rates for consumers.”

The Manitoba NDP repeated its calls on the Pallister Government to stop its plans to break up and privatize Hydro.
