PCs Miss Another Surgery Deadline

Manitobans Forced to Wait Again for Information on Surgery and Testing Backlog

Treaty 1 and Dakota Territory, Homeland of the Red River Métis, Winnipeg MB--For the second time, the Stefanson PC Government has failed to provide information about how long thousands of Manitobans have to wait for essential tests and surgeries.

“Manitobans deserve to know how long it will take to get the health care they need,” said Wab Kinew, leader of the Manitoba NDP. “Basic information like how many Manitobans are waiting, how long will they wait and how many procedures have been done should be available to the public. There is no reason for Premier Stefanson and the PCs to hide this information” said Kinew.

The Stefanson PCs first said an online dashboard would be available to show media wait times, the number of Manitobans waiting and the number of completed procedures in July 2022. After failing to keep their promise they then said the dashboard would be available this September. They have failed to keep that commitment.

“Manitobans are waiting yet again for the Premier to make health care a priority. Not only will the PCs not set a date to clear the backlog, they are still hiding how may Manitobans are waiting for their surgery and how long they have to wait. That’s wrong - the PCs should release this data today” said Uzoma Asagwara, health critic for the Official Opposition.
